Team Manager Expectations & Responsibilities
Managers should possess leadership abilities and enjoy working with kids. Preferably,
managers at all levels above T-Ball and Farm should have at least one season of
experience as an assistant coach.
All managers and coaches must be approved by the EMNLL Board of Directors and must
complete a Little League Volunteer Application and pass a background check; the
Volunteer Application is available on the website, and will also be provided to
you if you indicate interest in managing on the Registration form.
Responsibilities of the Manager include:
- Lead the team by example in the area of sportsmanship and promote goodwill between teammates, parents and competitors. Players and parents will follow your example.
- Educate yourself on how to plan and run practices. There are lots of good, free resources available at Little League online, and free pre-season coaching training is provided by our league.
- Prepare and submit lineups and lead the team during games.
- Know the rules by reading the Little League rule book, which will be provided to you as soon as they are available.
- Know the EMNLL Local Rules, which are available on our website.
- Hold a pre-season team meeting to communicate necessary information and to establish expectations for players, parents, and coaches.
- Ensure safety of players at practices and games by mandating safety equipment (e.g., helmets), exercising good judgment and ensure all players return a Medical Release Form and carry such forms at all team events.
- Recruit an official Coach and unofficial coaches to assist at practices and games.
- Recruit parent volunteers to assist at games (e.g., scorekeeper, field maintenance)
- Work with a Team Parent to ensure proper coordination for parent communication, fund raising, photos, and other team functions.
- Care for the EMNLL-provided playing equipment and then promptly return it to the league upon completion of the season.
- Maintain communication with the League, including addressing problems/situations with the appropriate League Commissioner or the Player Agent, as appropriate.
- Ensure that the field used is properly cared for and turn off all lights after use.
