Spring Season Information
Playing Baseball in the Spring
The purpose of the Spring season to develop all players and teams to the best of their potential while having a ton of fun! In addition, we maintain a focus toward preparing players with the tools needed for post-season play.
Winning is not the most important aspect of our sport, but play is more competitive in the Spring and we have a lot of fun during the process. It is important that all players learn to develop positive attitudes as a result of both winning and losing games during both league and tournament play.
Registration & Scheduling
Spring registration typically opens online in early November and closes in late January. More details can be found on the
registration
page as the Spring registration period approaches. Skills evaluations are held in February, with practices starting in late February and games in early March. In all divisions above T-Ball, the regular season is followed by a League Tournament. All play is completed before the Memorial Day weekend in late May. For more information, including an overview of typical game and practice schedules, please see our
FAQ
.
Spring Rules
In the Spring we adhere strictly to the official Little League rules, but some supplemental Local Rules have also been adopted. For specific rules for each division, please visit our
Local Rules
page.
Opening Day
For as long as EMNLL has been around, Opening Day for the Spring season has been a major event at Sewell Park! Every team in each division is represented in a decorated vehicle, with players in full uniform and is joined by marching bands and other guests to parade from The Big Chicken to Sewell Park. After parading down Roswell Rd. to the cheer of many screaming and adoring fans, arrival at the park is concluded with a short ceremony and presentation of the teams with a surprise guest speaker that's always a treat.
Standings & Post-Season
For Farm, Southern, Minor and Major leagues, results of each game are recorded and posted on the website as soon as the games are completed. Standings are maintained automatically using based on winning percentage, defensive runs allowed, offensive runs scored and, if necessary, head-to-head records. Major division play does not allow for ties, all games finish to a win-loss result.
For Farm, Southern and Minor leagues, all teams are entered into the post-season league tournament. Tournament seedings and schedules are determined by final standings from the regular season.
For the Major leagues, the top 4 teams in the final standings are entered into the Major League Playoffs, where teams will be paired off and play a best of 3-game series. Winners of the 2 series play in a best of 3-game final Major League Championship.
All post-season tournaments and playoffs typically begin within a week after the end of the regular season and may last one to two weeks.
All-Stars
All-Star teams represent East Marietta National Little League in summer tournament play against teams from the other leagues in our district. Teams are selected in five different age groups, from 8 and up. There are no tryouts for All Star teams; selection is based on regular season performance. In the second half of the regular season, All Star Eligibility Forms will be distributed with more details.
Schedules vary among the age groups but the teams are announced toward the end of May and early June. Practices begin as soon as teams are announced and tournament dates are typically throughout the month of July. Ages 11-12 can potentially play through July and into August if they are successful at district, state or beyond.
In 1983, we were the first Little League World Series champions from Georgia. No other team in Georgia even reached the series until two other teams from Georgia burst onto the scene in the last two years to win it in 2006 and 2007. It's no secret that we're working to develop another World Series caliber all-star team and we hope to be the first 2-time winner from Georgia!
